I agree with Kevin Bond. The Black church is certainly loyal.. and often to a fault. In this case, I think it is appropriate for his membership to support him. He is not yet been found guilty. At the same time, I am not ignorant and know how to operate in some spiritual wisdom and discernment. People certainly lie… I can’t deny. That being said, why would a young man and member of someone’s church say that it is acceptable for a pastor to be lounging around with parishioners on a couch. Of course the members do not see him as a pedophile… Most mothers of rapists and murderers are in denial too.
Just because you LOVE someone doesn’t mean it is right to “support” certain behavior. If my pastor was caught up in these types of allegations, I would HOPE he was innocent but I wouldn’t call the alleged victims a liar. This is really angering me because I am tired of people ignoring REAL problems in the church and beyond.
Don Lemon is a G!!! My new hero!
Umm, I agree with you… it is puzzling that people are ignoring REAL problems!
It is only a matter of time before Bishop Eddie Long is asked to step down, at least until he goes through his legal battles.
I honestly think that people are not wanting to believe this because, for some reason, they think it will reflect badly upon them for following him.
I am not going to knock the man for his indiscretions. I think there are consequences that he will have to deal with but ONLY because of the way he went about doing what he did (allegedly…).
It is clear to me that Bishop Long is drunk with power and the opulence that New Birth brings him. It was obvious during his address to his congregation on Sunday.
I kept hearing his church members say over and over during the interview that they support “the ministry.” Even they KNOW in their hearts that something is not right, but they are putting up a united front, which would be great if they were wanting to help homeless people or adopt children.
THis is NOT the time for a united front— when SO much damning information is coming out… just like Don Lemon said, FOUR individuals, one of them NOT even knowing the other three, one of them having only casual contact with the first two and not knowing the last, all having VERY similar stories.
What has happened here does not reflect badly on the Kingdom of God. God does not need us to cover this up! This is solely on man’s shoulders. We allow Bishop Eddie Long and preachers like him to preach anti-gay sermons and advocate against gays rights and gays living in the open, but want to turn a blind eye when he is accused of abusing his position, trust, committing adultery, etc — ALL while hiding behind the veil of God.
Amen!
