[TheView.abc.go.com] What did Sherri get for Christmas? An engagement ring! See the ring and hear her tell her engagement story LIVE on The View Monday, January 10th! Sherri has much to say about it, but here are the highlights:

On December 26, 2010, TV writer Lamar “Sal” Sally, proposed to our co-host Sherri Shepherd. The couple has been together for more than a year.

Upon arriving back from a trip to San Diego, Sherri was surprised to find their accommodations had been decorated with lights by one of Sal’s best friends, her dog was wearing a Santa beard and hat, and in the middle of a dish of Sherri’s favorite, but forbidden M+M’s (she is diabetic), was a tiny little box.

Before the proposal could officially proceed, Sal had to get permission from one special man — Sherri’s son Jeffrey. The 5-year-old was not above a bribe, which came from Sal in the form of Michael Jackson’s Wii game. That guaranteed immediate approval from Jeffrey. With that, Sal took a knee and popped the question

“Thank you for the well wishes,” Sherri said on Twitter. “Kept it secret so long because I wanted my relationship to be strong before I went public.”

The couple was introduced by Jay Tucker (fiance of Sherri’s close friend Niecy Nash). They are planning an August wedding in Chicago.
